Gail
P. Samota, GREEN
I am the oldest daughter of a
career Naval officer dad and
very savvy, professional real
estate mom, who was adept at
finding houses, frequently, and
making them into homes for my
two brothers, my sister and me.
Having lived all over the United
States and in Prague, in the
Czech Republic, I have a well
embedded wanderlust gene. Born
in Hawaii and armed with a
Bachelor's from the University
of California, Berkeley and a
Master's from the University of
Southern California, I have
spent 20 years in national and
international high technology
sales management positions.
These were successful years
because I listened to and
consulted with a broad range of
professionals, from electronic
technicians to CEO's of Fortune
500 companies, to find them
wide-ranging solutions and
opportunities, much like what is
required in the world of real
estate. |
Lucky enough to land permanently
in Santa Fe in 1997, my initial
experience in New Mexico was
much like Georgia O'Keeffe's who
said, "Well! Well! Well! ....
This is wonderful. No one told
me it was like this!" When I am
not helping folks with their
real estate needs, I volunteer
at Open Hands, travel, give
gourmet dinner parties, enjoy
music and art in every form, see
independent and foreign films,
enjoy our outdoor life and share
laughter with old and new
friends.

Michael Smith
-Connecting People, Purpose and
Place
When
you choose Michael Smith for
your real estate needs, you
enter into a rare relationship.
The kind you’ve always hoped for
in a realtor. One based on
attentive listening, respect and
dependable service. One where
generosity, humility and
patience are standard.
A professional relationship
where you are completely cared
for, at every step of your
collaboration – from the moment
of your very first phone contact
through closing day and beyond.
Michael truly understands how
deeply personal the buying or
selling of a house can be, how a
home can be a sanctuary as well
as an investment, and how that
delicate combination of feeling
and finance requires the utmost
reverence.
|
|
“My
whole job is to listen to what
is going to make clients happy,
not what is going to make me
happy,” Michael shares. “As an
agent, I talk to clients and
find out what they’re concerns
are and validate them. Clients
deserve for their realtors to
take the time to understand
those feelings and to confirm
them as being legitimate. If
selling, they deserve to have
somebody there who knows their
property inside and out, who is
up to date on the market and
advocates for them. As your
realtor, I don’t regard the sale
as a mere business transaction.
I’m listening to you the whole
way through.”
Upholding his ethic of
unconditional service in every
detail, Michael is not just
about buying or selling your
home in a one-time transaction.
He is committed to serving your
life-long real estate needs.
Whether this is your first or
last residence or anything in
between, Michael is there to
connect you with everything you
need to call your place home –
from information on school
districts and reliable
contractors, to cost-benefits
analyses and wise investment
tips, to home improvement
suggestions and annual home
maintenance plans. “I want to be
your Realtor for life,” Michael
says. “When you are ready to
move up, downsize, sell for the
first time, buy for the first
time, when your kids are headed
to college and they want to buy
a condo, or when you are ready
to put together a long-term
investment strategy, I would
like to be the one you turn to."
Throughout Michael’s six years
of exceptional real estate
service, more than 100 clients
have reaped the rewards of his
solid work ethic and impeccable
style. Clients who
overwhelmingly account for
Michael’s repeat business,
whether in referring friends and
loved ones, or when ready for
their own next real estate
transaction. Clients who have
received on average 97 percent
of their asking price and had
their homes on the market for
less than two months before
securing a contract.
A
natural networker, Michael is a
hub in the Santa Fe community
whose primary mission is to link
his clients with vital
interconnections - resources
congruent with their deepest
values and most authentic goals.
A lifetime of professional,
high-end hospitality and
disciplined spiritual practice
make Michael’s mindful attention
to detail, deep listening
skills, refined aesthetic and
business acumen second nature.
He warmly welcomes and pampers
each client – as a friend, a
partner and, most of all, an
honored guest.
“Everything we do, no matter
what it is, is about connecting
with others,” he says. “The
goal for all my transactions is
for everyone involved to feel
like they have been their
highest selves and to leave the
closing table as members of the
Santa Fe community; as
neighbors.”
Michael’s attentive service is
rooted in a constant practice
of both, monitoring the local
market–by neighborhood; and his
ongoing pursuit of industry
training to enhance the value of
his consulting for client
interests.
Continuing education – Rare is
the REALTOR® who is not content
to stay with a basic Broker
designation. Michael has earned
additional qualifications as an
Accredited Buyer’s
Representative (ABR), an
advanced certification in buyer
brokerage and buyer agency
issues, and a Certified
Residential Specialist (CRS), an
intensive real estate training
with a focus on finance,
technology and marketing.
Michael is currently working
toward an accreditation as a
Graduate of the Real Estate
Institute (GRI), the equivalent
of a nationally recognized
Graduate degree in real estate.
Investment property analysis –
In addition to his core real
estate expertise, Michael can
provide complete investment
property analyses assessing
‘before and after’ tax benefits
and strategies for maximizing
equity and profits.
Partnering with your financial
planner – As part of his
integrated approach to
representing your real estate
interests, Michael frequently
coordinates with allied
professionals according to your
investment strategy. Certified
financial planners, mortgage
brokers, appraisers, surveyors,
inspectors, title companies,
insurance brokers, and the like
have successfully worked with
Michael for profitable results
to serve client goals.
Michael feels passionately about
community involvement.
He is an elected member of the
Board of Directors for the Santa
Fe Association of REALTOR®s,
where he advocates for
sustainable development,
affordable housing, ecological
conservation, elder care, and
community diversity.
A
member of the Community Services
subcommittee, he is a leader
helping REALTOR®s give back to
their community. “Santa Fe has
the most non-profits per capita
of anywhere in the country!
But, with the years of the
federal government’s push to
‘starve the beast’ our most
vulnerable populations are in
real danger. We must all stand
for each other.” Michael says.
Also a member of the Sustainable
Housing subcommittee Michael has
been helping the Santa Fe
Association of REALTOR®s (SFAR)
to understand the issues
surrounding affordable housing
and sustainable living. “I don’t
stand on either side of the
argument as to whether to keep
Santa Fe as it is or to
encourage growth,” Michael says.
“I am committed to offering a
third alternative that can keep
our community’s economy, history
and ecology vital and strong
without compromising its
people.”
In
2003, Michael co-founded the
Santa Fe Japanese Intercultural
Network (JIN), which hosts an
annual Japanese cultural
festival, an exchange student
program between Santa Fe and
Japan, and monthly meetings
featuring Japanese language,
cooking and arts. The purpose of
JIN, an acronym which means
“person” in Japanese, is to
cultivate community, preserve
culture and foster
intergenerational mentoring
amongst Santa Fe’s
Japanese-American community.
Eventually, Michael would like
to expand JIN’s springtime event
into a Pan-Asian festival that
would interconnect Santa Fe’s
varied Asian-American
communities.
From 2003 through 2006, Michael
served on the Board of Directors
for Youth Shelters and Family
Services (YSFS), a very
important non-profit with 25
years of helping runaways and
homeless youth in Santa Fe. “It
broke my heart to leave the
board after 2 years of service
but I was spending way to little
time with Iba and the kids.
There is no better or more
important work being done in
Santa Fe than YSFS’s.”
A History
Michael’s mission of
unconditional service goes back
to the beginning of his
professional endeavors, when he
was a Zen monk in the Bay Area.
As part of his training with the
San Francisco Zen Center,
Michael worked as a server at
the famed Green’s restaurant in
Marin County and a dining room
manager at the world-renowned
Tassajara monastery near Big
Sur. There he not only applied
his understanding of
presentation by intention –
artfully setting tables and
graciously greeting patrons –
but also the reverent gift of
fine, nourishing food and
elegant style.
“It was not about money, but it
was about work and it was about
practice,” Michael says of his
hospitality work with the Zen
Center.
